Superintendent's Message to the Community 12-13-2021

Good Afternoon, and welcome to the Monday Update.  I'm Jeff Harris, Superintendent of Schools for Del Norte County.

Dates to Remember

Reminder, next week starts winter break, make sure you mark your calendars, there will be no school from December 20th through December 31st. We will return to school on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.

Heroes in Education & Academic Calendar

During last week's webinar we talked about Heroes in Education and our Academic Calendar.  Our Heroes in Education will be recognized this week at our school board meeting and in the Triplicate. As for the calendars, there are a few possible changes proposed over the next three school years, and our school board will be discussing those calendars tomorrow night, during their board meeting.  You can download that webinar and all of our past webinars at dnusd.org/families under the gold section titled "Communications to Families".

Sports Update

Last week the Del Norte Warriors Varsity basketball team was victorious against Grants Pass after Del Norte High student Wyatt Robson hit the game-winning free-throw with 3 seconds left in the game, great job Warriors!  In upcoming sports, the Del Norte High girls basketball team plays against North Medford tomorrow night, at 4:30 PM. Since this is a home game, we will be live streaming it at dnhigh.org, or on the Del Norte High Facebook page.

DNHS Media Arts Calendar

I also want to let you know that our media arts career and technical education program and Del Norte High photography classes have completed their annual calendar filled with student photography.  If you're interested in purchasing one, or several, they are available at Del Norte Office Supply or in the front office at Del Norte High School for the low price of $10.00.  All proceeds go to the Del Norte media arts and photography programs.

Mental Health & Wellness

While I know that almost everyone is looking forward to vacation and the holidays, I also know that this time of year can be stressful.  If you need support or would like to know more about local supports for you and your family, including mental health help, information on health care, jobs, etc., please visit two sites that are loaded with information, ConnectDelNorte.org or DelNorteWellnessCenter.com.  With over 250 local partners, help may only be a few clicks away.

The COVID-19 Active Cases Dashboard will be updated tomorrow at noon. To find the most recent information and metrics by school site on COVID-19 positive cases, please visit dnusd.org/familyresources and click the "COVID-19 Dashboard." Likewise, to see our county data, you can visit covid19.dnco.org.
